My Experiments

What I have in mind / been chipping away at as I have time:
A multi test, timebased data recording of the following metrics

  • Emotional State (what current emotion)
  • Cognitive Function (How smart, alert, non fatigued etc)
  • Bio signs (HR, Breathing etc)
  • Energy levels (How energy / vitality do you have)

I then want to compare these results to everyday tasks “Work”

  • Emails
  • Sales / sales results
  • Programming quality

1) Emotional State
Use something like the following as a graphic self assessment

Use Lucher color test eg
http://www.colorquiz.com/
Use Inkblot tests
Take randomised webcam shots as I work, showing bodylanguage / attention etc
Could measure NLP of typing stream to detect current emotional state
Output is an emotional graph over time

2) Cognitive Function
www.quantifiedmind.com
Reaction tests
Could use a randomised IQ test question (or reference from Intelligence: If you could only ask one question to determine the IQ (g) of a person, what would it be?)
EEG could also measure brain activity(?)

3) Bio signs
No real idea what could be measured, but these are a random list of things which I might be able to measure and see what has correlation..

Heart rate
Blood glucose (I have a $40 glucose meter)
Oximeter $40 from Amazon
Breathing tempo and count
Maybe even source a lie detector test to wire myself up to while working?
Electro conductance? Measures how much you are sweating
Blood Pressure $140 from chemist
VO2 measures?
Temp (can be used as a proxy for circadian rhythm
Live blood -> Very high power USB microscope, might be able to see dehydration etc.
Cortisol levels (probably via testing labs)
Vitamin / minerals / full blood work (via GP Dr)
How can I measure “how sick a person is” maybe temp?
Weight per week / body fat / muscle / water composition

Urine color (photo?) to measure dehydration / vitamin overdose
Urine testing
Alcalinity – correlation with Circadian ?
Tiredness – self assessment, and also significant tech around truck drivers measuring fatigue levels (eg partial closing eyelids / minute as a measure of fatigue).
Sleep Cycle App – can extract data from it.

EEG machine (either make – openeeg.org, buy emotiv.com or borrow from local University)

3) Work measures

EMAIL / WRITING REPORTS
Keystrokes per minute
Emails / minute / hour
% of emails not resulting in a reply (? is this even accurate).
Reading level of the text?
NLP emotional level of text
Have written keystroke recorder.
Mousetracking movement / accuracy?

SALES
Calles / hour
Yield / calls / bookings made (aka close ratio) / hour
Maybe’s / call me back later ratio also.

CODING
Fricken hard to measure this quantitatively

  • Lines / hour (about the worst measure, but an almost proxy for quantity).

Code quality by peer review (probably a better way to measure)
Code quality by self review (eg “How did you feel you coded today?”)
There are other measures mentioned on Quora for better ways to measure programming.

4) Enhancement projects / experiments
Aerobic Fitness vs. Endurance vs. Weights workouts
Sleep duration and quality
Diet (Protein vs. Low GI vs. Low Carb – Lots of Greens and vege juice).
Inflammation diet reduction
Meditation
Music
Hemisynch music (brain wave induction).
NLP state techniques / anchoring etc
Hydration and testing my “hyper hydration” method (eg drinking 6 litre / day)
Infrasound impacts on brain function? (need to contact Matt Simmons to borrow infrasound generator / Experiment with Subs).

Supplements I have found helpful so far

  • Superpump 250
  • Amino boost ( brand?)  very good.
  • Alpha Lipoic Acid + L-Carnitine + L-Tyrosine / L-glutamine
  • Flaxseed oil / Omega3s etc
  • Co-Q10 /  Ginko Biloba (studies shown rubbish?)
  • Multivitamin – seems to work for me.
  • Lecithin
  • Protein powder (watch milk allergy)
  • Alcalizing? Not found any impact with this.
  • Green tea
  • Also Cytomax had stronger reps / more running / more energy CytoSport l Building Athletes from the Inside Out
